POSTCARDS FROM COLORADO JUNE 21, 2005

Leave it to a Full Moon that is void-of-course all day long to have your day sort of a hodge podge of this and that. We slept in because we wanted to take a day off and let our 'old' bodies rest from being Lewis and Clark yesterday on that steep 2,500 foot trail and 8.5 miles of it. I got up at 7:00 a.m. and made coffee; which is a wonderful ceremony all of its own. I know, I know, there is the sacred tea ceremony and although there is none for coffee, the simple act of flipping on the switch to the coffee maker equaled it.

We wanted to go ride the gondola up to Mt. Werner their ski slope mountain. A gondola ticket costs $20 a person, which isn't chump change. Two people and you've spent $40 bucks. We decided to go to breakfast at the Egg and I, which was at a shopping center not far from the resort. It was usually packed and crowded, but at 8:00 am, it was fairly empty. I got an 'Athena' scramble; a mix of feta cheese, scrambled eggs and asparagus. Dave, being the conservative Midwest boy that he is, stuck to bacon and eggs. The food was good there and they had excellent coffee (something that either makes or breaks a restaurant for me is the quality or not, of their coffee, and the Egg and I passed that test easily with their Costa Rican blend.)

After that, I wanted to find out where Lena Steeds, a masseuse and much more (she also gives astrology and tarot readings) plus utilizes Aura Soma products--oils that have been blended with specific herbs in England and shipped over here. We'd been playing phone tag for days and finally, Monday evening, I connected with her. I really liked her face on her brochure and I asked her if she was a Pisces. She said no, but she had planets in Pisces and was a Sun in Cancer. That was good; Cancer people always take good care of others so I knew I was in good hands. Lena is also a painter and quite good in my opinion. So, this gal was quite creative, sensitive, psychic and in the healing arts. I had never tried Aura Soma before, but I felt confident in her hands that it would be highly useful to me. So, we found her suite and then back tracked to the gondola office. They had just opened their doors at 9:00 a.m. to sell tickets and we bought two. They said the gondolas don't start going up the mountain until 10 a.m.

We went home and got our hiking gear together. By the time it was ready to go, we drove over to the gondola parking lot. Ten a.m. came and went as one of the operators announced to us, that they were working to fix the gondola. Oops. Here I am with transiting Uranus, planet of unexpected accidents, sitting on my Moon with five inconjuncts to it. I told Dave with my luck, the gondola I was in would fall off the cable and crash three hundred feet to the ground. He just smiled. I really don't like heights and I've ridden other cars up and down mountains in the past with unease.

About 10:20 a.m., the operators opened the doors and everyone made a beeline for the gondolas lining up to take people up to the first part of the mountain, which was some 8600 feet. We had our own gondola and I opened the two small windows to let some much needed air in. I hate stuffy, warm places. I crave fresh, flowing air. And of course, this little gondola which could squeeze eight highly thin people into its cramped inner space, was all plastic windows on top. At 10:00 a.m., it was already 80F and I've been discovering high altitude and raw sunlight is brutal on me. So, the sunlight streaming into the gondola for that four minute ride just amped up the temperature big time. I took off my hat and used it as a fan to fan my face.

At the top, we got off. I wasn't really impressed because (a) it was too late in the day to hike because the temperature was too high and (b) there was very little shade that one could have, all the groves of trees bracketing the green ski slopes without any trails through them. We went and look at Billy Kidd's stuff; he was the guy back in the 70's, I think, that won a silver medal in the Olympics, plus others. He was a hot-dog skier from the area and they had some very nice displays on him, plus a bronze sculpture down below, honoring him. It was way too hot up there and no shade and I didn't see any flowers I hadn't shot before, so we hung around the peak for about fifteen minutes and left.

It was 11:30 a.m., when we went back to the Egg and I for lunch. I got their "Cape Cod" salad--a very interesting mix of golden raisins, sliced almonds, peanuts, dried cranberries sprinkled over fresh, perky spinach leaves and served with raspberry vinaigrette with focacia bread. It was a light, delicious lunch.

Dave drove me over to Lena's suite and I met her. She's a tall, thin, blue-eyed Swede who is very warm and friendly. I had asked for a tarot reading (1/2 hour) and I went into her small but nice office where the cards were laying out on top of the massage table. You could tell Lena had water signs in her because she has a very nice, pleasant water fountain that adds just the right ambiance to the low lighting and soft, New Age music in the background.

Lena suggested we do the card reading first and then the one hour Aura Soma massage. She said I might feel very rested and sleepy after the massage and I wouldn't get the full impact from the tarot reading. I agreed. We pulled up two chairs and I discussed with her what I wanted the cards to elaborate for me on one, specific question I had. She's an excellent card reader and gave me a lot of detailed information. I was very pleased with what the cards had to say; finally, a break in the storm and light at the end of the tunnel.

The Aura Soma consists of, perhaps, nearly 100 small, rectangular glass bottles. Some are have about 2 ounces of fluid in them, and the larger one has 4 ounces. Her cabinet where she showed them off had back lighting and the bottles were all two colors. She told me to pick two. Gosh, that was tough! The cabinet looked like a living rainbow to me and I love all colors, anyway, so I had trouble. I finally settled on the first one; a royal violet color on top and below it, turquoise color. The second one consisted of the deep, rich violet color on top and a clear, transparent gold color beneath it. I suspect they use two different oils of different weight so that is why one color stays on top and the other on the bottom. Lena told me the first bottle of the violet/blue combination was right in keeping with me being a creative writer. She said that this combination would help a person to create and then be able to give it 'voice' to the people.

I considered that combination and said, that's true. I asked her about the second bottle.

She said that she found that the second bottle is the therapeutic one; the one that the person needs. The violet was symbolized as being in contact with the Cosmos and bringing that energy into me and that the gold was about internalizing it to realize my own abilities, confidence and to help bring awareness to my own, inner journey. And, she said, it's about the heart journey and working from and through the heart. Well, that sounded good to me. After all, I was on vacation to nurture and heal myself, so I chose the second bottle. Lena approved with a smile.

She then used the oil from this bottle, which smelled strongly of roses in bloom (one of my favorite fragrances anyway and a great double check I'd chosen the right one). The moment that special blend of oil was slathered on me, I felt an incredible shift of energy around me and in my aura. Hmmm, I thought, this is good. So, I really relaxed into it and that hour just sort of melted away in the most delicious way. A good way to spend an out-of-sync day, energy - wise, by doing something spiritual and healing for myself. Void-of-course Moon days are perfect for one getting in harmony within themselves, holding counsel with themselves and acknowledging the beauty and purpose of their own, inner journey. I was so glad I had enlisted Lena Steed because she was the perfect foil for what I needed today. After that time-lulling and spiritually deep journey for an hour, I came out of her office looking spaced out from Dave said. He told me he'd drive the car because I wasn't 'here' yet. That was true. I noticed that clouds were finally coming over the valley, thank goodness. I even saw some building thunderheads. I asked the Thunder Beings to come on over and hide us from the sun to lower the temperature. And, I'd love it if they wanted to put on a special sky dance tonight with thunder, lightning and rain, too. We'll see if it happens.

So, it has been a quiet day in some respects. Just resting our bodies and getting our spirits tended too in a lovely way. Tomorrow, we are planning on going up to Seedcreek, which is about ten miles beyond Mad River trail system. Seedcreek is a huge group of trails that go into the heart of the Routt National Forest. We'll get up again, at 5 a.m., to begin our day. Early rising makes for a cool morning hike and we're back before the nasty heat hits. Who knows what adventures are ahead for the morrow?

Warmly,
Eileen
